BRING YE ALL THE TITHES

Genesis_8-22: While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease

Text: Malachi 3:6-12:
“6 For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
7 Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?
8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.
12 And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of hosts.”

INTRODUCTION: The Almighty God commanded that all the tithes should regularly be paid to Him. We do ourselves a lot of good if we trust and obey, as tithes is God’s provision to bless His people.

A PRINCIPLE AND PRACTICE IN ALL DISPENSATION:
Tithing has been in practice long before the dispensation of the law. Abraham paid tithes and as Abraham’s seed, we are expected to walk in His faith and steps.
Genesis 14:18-20

“18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
19 And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:
20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.”

Jacob paid tithes to God.
Genesis 28:16-22
“16 When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” 17 He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.”
18 Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. 19 He called that place Bethel,[a] though the city used to be called Luz.
20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear 21 so that I return safely to my father’s household, then the Lord[b] will be my God 22 and[c] this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.”

Psalms_1-3: And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper

Psalms_1-3: And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper

All Israelites were commanded by God to pay their tithes,
Leviticus 27:30-32
“30 And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord’s: it is holy unto the Lord.
31 And if a man will at all redeem ought of his tithes, he shall add thereto the fifth part thereof. (Good News Translation) 31 If you wish to buy any of it back, you must pay the standard price plus an additional 20 percent.
32 And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the Lord.”

Numbers 18:21-24 “24 But the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as an heave offering unto the Lord, I have given to the Levites to inherit: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance”.

During the dispensation of grace, the Lord Jesus Christ encouraged the payment of tithes. He rebuked the Pharisees for neglecting other Spiritual matters which are equally important (sin of omission) and not that He condemned tithing.

Matthews 23:23 (New American Standard Bible)
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others,”

Luke 18:12 “I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.”

CONCLUSION: One way to tap into the covenant blessing of Abraham is to regularly and promptly pay your tithes.

  1. O. T. tithes were always only food from inside God’s HOLY land of Israel.
Those who received tithes were not allowed to won land.
Today all believers are priests who do not tithe to themselves.
Gentiles and the Church never were under the Old Covenant Law.
