Care For Missionaries

Philippians 4: 10 – 20

In1Corinthians 9: 11 -18, Paul wrote that he didn’t accept gifts from the Corinthian Church because he didn’t want to be accused of preaching only to get money. But he maintained that it was a Church’s responsibility to support God’s ministries/work (1 Corithians 9:14). However, he accepted the Philippians’ gift because they gave it willingly. Paul commended the Philippian Church for the gifts they sent to him through lovely Epaphroditus, the gift as described as a sweet smelling, acceptable and well-pleasing sacrifice to God.

Paul thanked them and prayed for them from the bottom of his heart for caring for his missionary work. Even when he was in Thessalonica, the Philippian Church sent him gifts (vs 16) and his prayers for them was “My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Many Christians read this passage without understanding the reason for this blessing. Anyone who wants to key into this prayer and the blessing thereof should endeavour to care for God’s missionary work and the Ministers that He uses.

Jesus said in Matt. 9:37- 38 “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the Labourers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of harvest to send out labourers into His harvest” (NKJV). Here, Jesus commands us to pray that people will respond to this need for workers. Often when we pray for something, God answers our prayers by using us. Be prepared for God to use you and your substance to show another person the way to God.

Make yourself available and He will supply you all your needs according to his riches in glory. Don’t doubt whether you can do it. Yes you can! You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Support God’s work the way to you can, and be spent for Him for your reward is great in heaven.

Matthew 10:41 “He who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.”

Father, who showers us your plenteous gifts from above, give us the grace to be relevant in your vineyard and to give without minding the cost in Jesus’ name. Amen.
